Music Lessons for Toddlers and Preschoolers in Singapore

Young children can begin developing their musical awareness from an early age. Our music classes for toddlers and preschoolers introduce children to rhythm, melody, movement, singing and keyboard playing through age-appropriate activities.

Rather than expecting young children to sit through lengthy traditional lessons, the programme combines musical learning with movement, games, singing, percussion and interactive activities. This helps children stay engaged while gradually developing important foundational music skills.

Group and cluster-based activities also allow children to experience music with their peers, encouraging listening, cooperation, ensemble awareness and confidence.

What Is the Young Musician Course?

The Young Musician Course is an early childhood music education programme designed to introduce young children to the fundamentals of music before progressing into more formal instrumental learning.

Children are introduced to music through a combination of singing, solfege, rhythm, movement, percussion, keyboard playing, music notation, ensemble work and creative activities. As their skills develop, they gradually learn to connect what they hear with what they see and play.

The programme is designed to build a strong musical foundation that can support a child's future development in piano lessons, music theory, performance and other areas of music education.

Young Musician Course Age Groups

Our programmes are structured according to the child's age and stage of musical development. This allows young learners to progress through activities that are appropriate for their physical, cognitive and musical development.

Music Lessons for Children Aged 3 and Above

Children from around 3 years old can begin developing their musical awareness through singing, movement, rhythm games, percussion, keyboard activities, musical games and ensemble experiences.

The emphasis at this stage is on building enjoyment, confidence, listening awareness, coordination and a positive relationship with music.

Music Lessons for Children Aged 4 to 5

From around 4 years old, children can progress into more structured keyboard and music literacy activities. They begin connecting musical sounds with written notes while developing rhythm, pitch, coordination and performance confidence.

Our Encore on Keys Junior programme is designed for beginner children aged approximately 4 to 5 years old.

Music Lessons for Children Aged 5.5 to 8

Older children can progress into the Encore on Keys Primary programme, designed for beginner students approximately 5.5 to 8 years old.

The programme develops keyboard skills, rhythm, music reading, repertoire, ensemble playing and other essential musical foundations while introducing children to different musical styles.

What Children Learn in Our Young Musician Programme

Our early childhood music education programme in Singapore introduces children to a broad range of musical skills rather than focusing only on playing an instrument.

Solfege Singing and Ear Training

Solfege singing helps children develop pitch awareness, melodic understanding and aural skills. Children are encouraged to sing before and after playing so they can strengthen their ability to hear and understand musical patterns.

Rhythm, Beat and Movement

Rhythm activities, movement, dance and body percussion help young children experience musical pulse physically. These activities also encourage coordination and musical responsiveness.

Keyboard and Piano Skills

Children are introduced to keyboard playing through age-appropriate activities and gradually develop coordination, note awareness and confidence at the instrument. As children progress, these foundations can lead naturally into more formal piano lessons in Singapore.

Music Reading and Notation

Children are gradually introduced to music notation and learn to recognise notes, patterns and musical phrases. Flash cards and structured activities can help make early music reading engaging and accessible.

Percussion and Musical Games

Percussion instruments, musical games and interactive activities allow children to experience rhythm and musical concepts in a fun and practical way.

Ensemble Playing

Ensemble activities encourage children to listen to one another, maintain a steady pulse, follow musical cues and understand how individual parts work together to create music.

Improvisation and Creative Music Making

Children are encouraged to explore sounds, create musical ideas and experiment with simple improvisation. This supports creativity while helping children develop confidence in expressing themselves through music.

Encore on Keys Junior

Encore on Keys Junior is designed for beginner children approximately 4 to 5 years old. The programme provides a broad musical experience that goes beyond keyboard playing.

Children participate in storytelling, musical games, percussion activities, gestures, movement and keyboard playing. Flash cards and structured activities are also used to develop early music literacy.

The programme is designed to make learning music enjoyable while gradually developing the skills required for more formal instrumental education.

Encore on Keys Primary

Encore on Keys Primary is designed for beginner children approximately 5.5 to 8 years old. It builds on the foundations introduced through earlier music learning while adapting the activities to the learning needs of older children.

Children develop essential skills through finger exercises, rhythm activities, repertoire, ensemble playing and music-reading activities. The programme also exposes students to different musical styles and layers of musical expression.

This provides a natural pathway towards more formal piano courses and other structured music programmes.

Why Start Music Lessons at a Young Age?

The early years provide an important opportunity for children to explore sound, rhythm, movement and musical expression. Introducing music in an age-appropriate way can help children become comfortable with listening, singing, movement and playing an instrument.

Our approach focuses on building a strong foundation rather than rushing children into formal examination preparation. Children are encouraged to develop confidence and musical understanding first, creating a positive foundation for future instrumental learning.

From Young Musician Course to Piano Lessons

The Young Musician Course can provide a natural foundation for children who eventually wish to pursue more formal piano lessons in Singapore.

Children first develop rhythm, listening, pitch awareness, music reading, keyboard coordination and musical confidence. As they mature and become ready for individual instrumental learning, they can progress into a structured piano programme suited to their age and ability.

Young Musician Course vs Individual Piano Lessons

Parents sometimes wonder whether a young child should begin with a general music programme or individual piano lessons. The most suitable option depends on the child's age, readiness, musical experience and learning objectives.

The Young Musician Course provides a broad introduction to music through singing, rhythm, movement, keyboard, percussion, music reading and ensemble activities. It can be particularly suitable for younger children who are still developing their attention span, coordination and musical confidence.

Individual piano lessons may be more suitable when a child is ready for a more focused one-to-one instrumental programme.

Our teachers can help parents determine which learning pathway is appropriate based on the child's age, experience and musical development.
